A Visit to a Gallery as a Source of Inspiration for Photographers.

A visit to a gallery is one of the  sources for your inspiration.

Recently I visited the exhibition “The Artist and the Theatre”.
I enjoyed the artwork of the Russian-American artist Mihail Chemiakin.
The exhibition presents paintings, sketches of the scenery and costumes.

One of Chemiakin’s favorite themes is carnival.

Carnival typically involves a public celebration and/or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks and public street party. People wear masks and costumes during many such celebrations, allowing them to lose their everyday individuality and experience a heightened sense of social unity.

Carnival traditions in Russia are rooted in the history of ancient and medieval Russia.
From the early eighteenth century during Peter the Great’s rule carnivals became very popular in Russia.
There were about 300 clowns and jesters, dwarfs and freaks at the court. They were brought to Russia from different countries.

Chemiakin added a bit of surrealism to the history and received his artwork.

Sometimes it makes you feel like you are in a dream.
I can’t say that I like surrealism very much, but it is a certain attitude to the art, to the world and to life itself.

Thank you for reading!
